“The best time to work as an illustrator is that time of day when you couldn’t care less” -Jamie Andrews

PAST WORK

“My work: In repsonding to someone who once described the tone of my work as “dark” and “semi-warped” I said “fuck you”! Actually, I just smiled and offered my view that it also contains a great deal of warmth and humanity”

- Andrew Znbhylhychj

As a young illustrator, I have no particular trademark look or feel to my work. It’s still flexible, everything is open to experimentation. I don’t live in a “comfort zone”, and I’m not fantastically repetitive.

Conceptually, I’m in love with the human form. The majority of my work is figurative, and I often combine that with themes of edgy popular culture; The younger years, experimentation, drugs, rock ‘n roll, you know the stuff. Proper Skins style. Perhaps I’m trying to capture a piece of that culture before I finally grow up (assuming that will eventually happen). I reflect on these subjects and issues habitually. I bend briefs towards these younger cultures.

I’m always fascinated by the shift in moods that any art, but particularly illustration, can provoke. I love humourous illustration. Novelties. Eye candy. David Shrigley is a favourite chap of mine, but I’ll never claim to “understand” his work. But then, can anybody?

I see art in any form as a tool. A way of communicating. Even as a weapon on a larger, political and global scale. A universal language. I often feel that certain parts of the creative industry have forgotten this… the music industry is a prime example.

Here ‘s a miscellaneous handful of some of my past work. For more up-to-date stuff and current projects, check out my blog’s main homepage and the other tabs at the top of this page.

  1. Dude, I love the “Sleep/Party” piece. All the compartments of the brain is ace.. I think that could almost be a piece on it’s own. :)
